There's better budget news after the Monday Frederick County School Board budget worksession. Superintendent Patricia Taylor presented new options based on the House and Senate spending blueprints. They would bring a shortfall of $2.1 million or $2.5 million, instead of the $7.1 million via former Governor Kaine's budget that Taylor's original proposal was based. The new options no longer contain a 1.5 percent salary reduction and all or almost all of the 39 job cuts are taken off the table. Doing away with 9th grade sports is still advised.
