Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavors

April 17

Members of the community will have the opportunity to get a first-hand look at work by Shepherd University students at an Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavors on Wednesday, April 17, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Student Center Storer Ballroom. This event, which is free and open to the public, will highlight research posters and creative displays by more than 30 students from across campus.

“Undergraduate students at Shepherd are engaged in a large number of research and creative projects, developing original work within their fields of study,” said Dr. Jason Best, director of strategic research initiatives. “Individual departments often host events to highlight student work within a single discipline, often as part of a capstone experience. In a similar spirit, the university this year is introducing an event that simultaneously showcases undergraduate student research and creative efforts across numerous disciplines on the campus. Students selected by various departments will present their work to members of the Shepherd community.”

“I am extremely proud of this event and the impact it will have on the career paths of our students,” said President Mary J.C. Hendrix. “My passionate interest in research started at Shepherd University, and I am delighted to support our students as they explore the unknown.”

Best said the event is structured as a poster and display session, a format chosen in order to allow visitors to simultaneously experience the interconnections among numerous disciplines. This format also facilitates the free-flowing exchange of ideas and energetic interactions that become possible with the interplay of multiple specializations and interests.

“By placing the event in the late afternoon, we hope to enable participation of a greater number of interested individuals from across campus and within the community,” Best said. “On behalf of Shepherd University, I look forward to seeing as many people as possible at the exhibition.”
